Kogi at 35 is more than a commemoration of a date; it is a celebration of a people who have, across three and a half decades, turned diversity into identity, adversity into resilience and aspiration into progress.  I warmly congratulate the Government and people of Kogi State on this milestone and commend His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for sustaining the development trajectory of the state.  I equally acknowledge the contributions of the immediate past Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as well as those of our progressive political leaders, founding fathers, traditional, community builders and citizens whose sacrifices have shaped Kogi’s journey. The out going Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson Jack has described her tenure in office as one marked by significant achievements and formidable challenges. Mrs Didi Esther Walson Jack disclosed this as she formally handed over the mantle of leadership to Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan. The handover ceremony, which took place in Abuja, marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Federal Civil Service,  following the swearing-in of Mr. Abel Enitan by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House. The leading Construction Company, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and other construction firms stepped in on Thursday to support an emergency rescue operations in Port Harcourt after the collapse of a 5‑storey building under construction along Dr. Peter Odili Road near Eterna Filling Station. The structure collapsed at about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, trapping an unspecified number of construction workers and leaving residents of the Rivers State capital in shock.  The incident occurred less than 24 hours after another building collapse in the city, further raising concerns about construction safety standards. Eyewitnesses said several labourers were working in and around the building when it suddenly gave way.  Early estimates indicated that at least seven persons were trapped beneath the rubble.  Rescue efforts commenced immediately, with local residents, emergency responders, and security personnel working collaboratively to reach victims buried under the debris. Nigeria has reached a defining moment in the evolution of its electricity market. For years, the Nigerian electricity supply industry has operated under a system in which the cost of electricity was significantly higher than the price paid by a large proportion of consumers. Government consequently intervened through tariff subsidies, absorbing the difference between the cost-reflective tariff and the approved end-user tariff. That model was never going to be sustainable indefinitely. The current movement towards reducing and ultimately eliminating electricity subsidies is therefore not only understandable; it is necessary. A viable electricity market cannot permanently depend on government intervention to bridge the gap between the cost of electricity and the price paid by consumers.
